Re: Bout to fire up
With a turkey choke it's very easy to miss at 10 yards. We've all done it, but it's a sick feeling. I like them at 25 to 50 yards, and I've missed a few of them under 25 yards. With my TSS loads I can stretch it out a little more. I hate it when they slip in close to me.

Re: Listening
The people across the street have 3 big white turkeys. They were hammering at daylight during that warm spell Which warm spell? We've only had a few days of cool spell. Otherwise it's been summer since last year. I love to hunt turkeys on a clear frosty morning but unfortunately we have very few of...

I'm cheering for chuckles and company to eliminate turkey season completely. Hopefully they'll continue to push more people away from hunting.

Yep, I don't understand how you can kill anything on the planet with a 243 but it's not enough for a Lil ol pine goat.Shootnmiss wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 9:08 pmShooting turtles? 243 ain't enough for deer. It was a good round 30 years ago for hunting, but deer these days are different, they seem tougher.

They can certainly be entertaining, especially the young ones.
My wife took the Gator down the pond yesterday and she heard two bucks fighting. Said they were probably less than 100 away.

Looks good Appears to be cooked to Medium temp = perfection Yep that appears to be the perfect amount of pink. Given the option, I'll always choose undercooked rather than overcooked. If a waitress ever asked me how I want my prime rib, I'll get up and walk out. There's only one way to prepare prim...

I killed one a few years ago that we named Capt Hook. Had several pictures of him. Took my nephew several times trying to kill him and I eventually got one morning hunting by myself. One hook was 1"&7/8 and the other was 1"&1/4. Not sure how long his beard was originally, but he'd worn the end off d...

Well I'm not advocating the Remington cor-lokt brand, more specifically I'm a big fan of lead mushrooming ammo. There's several to choose from and each rifle seems to like a particular one. I'm just not a fan of the marketeers and all the plastic tip, xpoint, frangible, super magic, fashion show.

Re: Bullet choice for deer?
The cor-lok is a basic simple soflt lead mushrooming bullet. It's been killing everything on the planet since the invention of the gun. It does the job very well and there's no need to fix what ain't broke, in my opinion.

Thaw the lion in buttermilk and a little salt, let it set for at least 12 hours at room temperature. Then add your desired stuffing and seasoning. Thank me later.

Re: Aluminum slate call
There are advantages to aluminum calls. I've got one that's probably 25,30 years old don't even recall who made it. But I've used it to locate a stubborn old gobbler later in the day. Honestly that's about the best use I found for it, but it has opened the door for me a few times over the years.

That's David Leonard and he makes a fine slate call. I've got one and killed a couple of nice Tom's with it. But I'm not sure if he makes aluminum. His ad is posted at the top of the general forum. Give him a shout.
