Re: Bush hog duty

I watched a gobbler breed a hen Saturday morning in Lee county.

They’re already getting it on.

Re: Bout to fire up

It’s going to be in the mid 80s next week. I keep seeing a bunch of people on Facebook that farm and guide hunts saying they are guaranteeing an early hot spring. We a quail biologist tell us on our old land that over half of all the hen turkeys they checked when they were doing Turkey studies were ...

Re: Bullet choice for deer?

Interesting because I don’t know a single person that shoots Remington core lokts. Hunted with a guy over 20 years ago that shot them in his antique 6mm but I can’t remember anyone else that shot them. All the guys I used to hunt with that took hunting seriously shot nosler accu bonds or nosler part...

Bullet choice for deer?

What do all of you think is the best brand and type of bullet for killing a deer. I’ve got buddies that shoot Barnes , Hornady SST , and acubond. They all kill deer , but the accubonds seem to be deadly based on deer I’ve helped them drag out. I’ve killed several deer with just about every type bull...

Re: Aluminum slate call

I’ve killed more birds with copper than slate or crystal. Aluminum can be way too loud if you don’t have the right striker, and it’s a picky metal. I’ve got a striker made out of plexi glass that works real good on any metal call. I wish I had 2 or 3 plexi glass strikers in different sizes because t...

Re: Aluminum slate call

I haven't made any aluminum calls yet. But I am working on some pot calls now. Slate, crystal and copper.... I might check into getting some aluminum. If you make an aluminum post it up. I would be open to a copper. I’ve got a Son Rise copper call that’s killed several birds but wouldn’t mind anoth...

Well they started life as spin feeders. But Moultrie sucks and all their electronics are garbage. So eventually we bought their gravity conversion kits and burned all of the electronic crap. I put those Moultrie AA battery spinners on the feeder I have in the yard and they have held up good. Buy th...

Bucks chasing

I had a decent buck, a spike, and 4 does in the yard this morning. The buck was chasing 3 of the does around and getting after them. All the does took off running across the property line to get away from him. For anybody that hunts around Randolph county it may be real close to busting open in a fe...

Re: Well Dang !!!

I posted a few weeks ago I had this happen with one of my nikons. Never had an issue with a Nikon scope other than bumping one off 4 years ago climbing down a tree.

It’s head scratching wondering why a scope would change when it’s been in a safe for 11 months.

Re: Northern Randolph county

I’ve had a doe and 2 fawns out in the yard feeder for weeks. This morning the momma doe was the only one there.

She may have run them off getting ready. Been watching her through the scope and her hocks are a little dark. Shouldn’t be long.

Re: Mock scrapes

Not in Alabama, but I know a guy in a neighboring state that killed a massive deer this year using one. He started it about 2 weeks before the rut.

He actually has other bucks still coming to it.

Used a brand of doe urine called black widow.

Re: I caught a deer(as my wife always says)

It’s a bad feeling to hear one die like that. Last night we were leaving the falls light show in Gadsden and somebody in front of us ran over a cow horn spike right there in town. Deer was laying on the edge of the pavement with his head up doing that. I can’t stand to watch an animal suffer. I shot...

Red stag killed in Roanoke

There was a 300 pound red stag killed in Roanoke Alabama this weekend. Got out of a high fence somewhere in Georgia. https://amp.ledger-enquirer.com/living/living-here-guide/outdoors/article268487737.html My step daughter knows the boy that killed it. Think it was the first deer he’s ever killed. Be...

Re: Hire Cadillac ASAP

If auburn pays kiffin what I’m hearing I don’t think I’ll ever buy another ticket. Kiffin isn’t close to being worth 11 million a year. Also . He had more freshman playing than any other sec west team and might win 10 games. If he leaves ole miss with that stat he is chasing money and not winning.

Re: Today just confirmed it

I find it suspicious that as soon as every other team started PAYING players Legally, and being able to get free transfers , saban started slipping. Other than 1 game against Clemson, 1 against LSU, and 1 against Ohio state, Alabama has had an enormous, I’m talking unbelievable talent and depth adva...

I don’t know what this season will do to Nicholas sabans legacy. I can see him standing in front of the mirror every morning wondering if people will be talking about him being the greatest ever for 50 years. You know he dreams about that. With the talent and resources advantage he has , I’m wonderi...

Re: Tennesse Alabama game

Bama will still be in the SEC championship game and either play Georgia or rematch Tennessee. They might have some more close games but they have over a 91% chance to win out. Yeah they played bad, but they had more penalty yards than rushing yards and still scored 49 points. That’s an insane stat t...

Re: Planting plots.

On the club I just let go , every year I overseeded 2 fields around the end of October with Nelson rye. I would go back and fertilize it with triple 10 , usually around the first of rifle season. Those fields held deer at the end of January. I killed one old deer that was full of that Nelson grass. ...

Re: Planting plots.

I’ve always noticed plots planted between the first of October and middle of October seem to end up being the best.

Now these are wheat , oats, and Nelson ryegrass fields. At my old club when we planted mid September in they never seemed to hold and get thick.

Got one this morning

Only hunted one morning and one afternoon so far , so decided to go this morning. Didn’t hear a gobble until 940 and had him inside 40 yards by 1015. I called him up for a friend at his place and let him shoot. Just an 18.5 lb 2 year old, but he put on a good show. I swear there is less turkey sign ...
