Bullet choice for deer?

What do all of you think is the best brand and type of bullet for killing a deer.

I’ve got buddies that shoot Barnes , Hornady SST , and acubond. They all kill deer , but the accubonds seem to be deadly based on deer I’ve helped them drag out.

I’ve killed several deer with just about every type bullet I can think of. Best bullets I’ve ever owned were hand loaded nosler partition. I killed a 250 pound pig at over 200 yards and it didn’t even make it step.

I use Winchester Deer Season XP bullets now because they’re easy to find and buy, and have had good luck with them.

The best answer I have is the one your gun likes the most, and the one you have confidence in. I'm a fan SGKs and the Federal Fusion

The cor-lok is a basic simple soflt lead mushrooming bullet. It's been killing everything on the planet since the invention of the gun. It does the job very well and there's no need to fix what ain't broke, in my opinion.

Only time I tried shooting them was out of my 270. I was lucky to get a six inch group. Great bullet but that left a bad taste in my mouth and never bought any more.

Well I'm not advocating the Remington cor-lokt brand, more specifically I'm a big fan of lead mushrooming ammo. There's several to choose from and each rifle seems to like a particular one. I'm just not a fan of the marketeers and all the plastic tip, xpoint, frangible, super magic, fashion show.

Interesting because I don’t know a single person that shoots Remington core lokts. Hunted with a guy over 20 years ago that shot them in his antique 6mm but I can’t remember anyone else that shot them.

All the guys I used to hunt with that took hunting seriously shot nosler accu bonds or nosler partitions. Very few even shot Hornady.

I will say that a guy I used to hunt with every weekend killed 3 decent bucks one year with those Barnes TTSX with the blue tip and he wasn’t the greatest shot, but every one of those deer died within 10 yards. Another member shot a huge 8pt running with a Barnes in a 270 and it blew a golf ball sized hole in that deers ribs.

I’ve killed a lot of deer with alot of different bullets. Killed lot of heavy bucks “over 150lbs” and have killed a truck load of young bucks and does. I swapped over to Barnes TTSX and Noslers about 5 years ago. I feel like they make up for a little room of error VS lead tips. At the end of the day like Shootnmiss said, it comes down to what your gun likes and accuracy. No matter what ammo you chose you gotta put it in the boiler room to get deadly results. But I have seen first hand Noslers and TTSX bullets placed way back, ribs, hindquarters etc and the deer didn’t go 50 yards. And they bled like crazy. That was the selling point for me, and my guns likes them.

I load my own .308 and have excellent accuracy and kill results from Speer 2034 PSPBT in 165gr. Been shooting these exclusively for over 10 years. Before that was probably Remington Core Lokt

I can witness for Wiley's hand loads. Absolutely lethal out of my 308. They've put lots of meat in my freezer.

Truth!

Anyway, all I shoot is Barnes TSX or VORTX LR depending on caliber. I only shoot my own hand loads. Last 9 deer I’ve killed were DRT

Personally, i wouldnt want shou with any of them. But im not tough as Outback. He says 9mm hollowpoints just bounce right off his flannel shirt. I bet if you shot him wit a 143gr eldx out of a 6.5cm, the gun would just melt and turn into i pile at the shooters feet

Been shooting Hornady for over 25 years. The Light Magnums were my favorite. Shooting the American Whitetail soft points now. They work for me.
