Summer feeding....

Post by Tru-Talker »

Any of y'all started doing anything for the deer yet.... And what are y'all planting or feeding them? We gone be planting ours this weekend in iron clay cow peas.... Refreshen our salt licks with mineral and white salt...and who knows what else..... What y'all doing with y'alls?

I already did minerals and white salt. We have a few fields getting pretty high that we've left. I planted one dead one with rye in early February and it came on nice. I planted another with a forage mix yesterday morning. In the next week or so I'm going to turn one of the fields and plant some soy beans.

I put out minerals as soon as I see bucks starting to shed. 1 part DiCalcium Phosphate 2 parts Trace Mineral. I'll top off with more dical/TM mid-June or early July. Needs to be as close to fresh water as you can get without worrying about your minerals washing away. This lick started the size of stop sign, it's about 10ft across now.

I put a camera on this one a few days ago. Looks like they are pounding it right now. That machete has an 18" blade... Image

not sure about that. this area has not had any hogs for the 16 years the guy has owned it, the lick doesn't smell Terrible like a wallow and has deer tracks all in and around it.
